Advocating for yourself while you are sick or hurting can be difficult. We pair a "spoonie" (a patient) with an advocate to make this easier. Each spoonie will require a different level of assistance and can take advantage of as much or as little of the support offered.
Spoonie: a person with chronic pain/illness who enrolls in Chronic Hope Care's advocacy program
Advocate: a volunteer who joins Chronic Hope Care's advocacy program to help Spoonies advocate for themselves
Types of Support Offered:
-15-30 minute meeting with advocate before an important appointment. During this meeting goals for appointment, what do the spoonie wants to get out of an appointment ect are considered and evaluated. To make advocacy easier
-Advocate accompanying Spoonie to appointment when needed/appropriate. To help with note taking and processing of appointment.
-Connect with with an advocate incase of emergencies such as ambulance ride or emergency room visit. If appropriate advocate can join Spoonie at hospital or do a video visit.
-Connect with an advocate before/after a surgery for support
-Any other approved support agreed upon between Spoonie and Advocates

Q: Do I need to have a diagnosis to apply to become a spoonie?
A: No, we understand that diagnoses are often difficult to come by, so it is not required to apply.
Q: How am I paired with an advocate?
A: A lot of things are taken into consideration when pairing a Spoonie and Advocate. We consider how much support a Spoonie needs and how much availability an advocate has, personality types and life experiences of both the Advocate and Spoonie.
Q: What happens in my application to be a Spoonie wasn't accepted:
A: There are many reasons that this may happen. Feel free to send us an email and we will go over our decision with you.
